Paint Shop Operator

Pay Range: $15.00-$17.50/hour
Job Description:
A skilled and detail-oriented Paint Shop Operator is needed to support manufacturing operations in a high-performance, quality-focused environment. This role involves preparing and applying chemical coatings and paints to mechanical assemblies, with a strong emphasis on precision, safety, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare surfaces of machined and sheet metal components for painting by cleaning, stripping, abrading, sanding, masking, and stenciling.
- Apply chemical coatings, including paint and enamel, to assemblies using precision application tools and techniques.
- Mask intricate “keep-out” zones on small or detailed assemblies according to work instructions and technical drawings.
- Unmask and perform touch-ups on products to meet quality specifications.
- Interpret blueprints and process documentation to ensure compliance with thickness and dimensional tolerances.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, saws, jigs, masking aids, and media blasters.
- Use measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and scales to validate part specifications.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with team members using both written and verbal communication.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and production software for data entry and team communication.
- Achieve performance targets related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
- Adhere strictly to safety standards, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or trade school education (minimum of 2 years).
- At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or paint shop environment preferred.
- Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools, including masking aids, jigs, and media blasters.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and process sheets.
- Skilled in precision masking and touch-up work on small assemblies.
- Comfortable using computers and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet quality and production standards.
- Capable of sitting for extended periods while performing detailed work.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for handling small parts and precision tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and use of PPE.
