Job Description
Looking for a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to join project in Wahiawa, HI. The project is part of a Public Utilities project on the island of Oahu.
Primary Responsibilities
The SSHO position shall be a full-time responsibility.
Must be present on-site during all work shifts, with full mobility and reasonable access to all major work operations.
Shall be an employee other than the supervisor, unless otherwise specified in the contract and coordinated with the local Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Office.
Will report to a senior project or corporate official.
Minimum Training Requirements
The SSHO must provide a copy of an instructor-signed OSHA 30-Hour training card, or a course completion certificate (if within 90 days of completing the course and the card is not yet issued).
Acceptable training includes one of the following:
OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Safety Course
(Web-based permitted if the student can directly ask the instructor questions via chat or phone)
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Safety Course
(Web-based permitted under same conditions as above)
Equivalent formal safety and health training that covers topics from the OSHA 30-hour course and EM 385-1-1 Section 3.d.(3)
(Web-based allowed if interaction with instructor is possible)
The SSHO must provide proof of the following experience:
One of:
Five (5) years of continuous construction safety experience, including supervising or managing safety programs, conducting hazard analyses, and developing controls; OR
Five (5) years of continuous general industry safety experience, including similar duties as above; OR
Four (4) years of experience, if the SSHO holds a third-party, nationally accredited (ANSI or NCCA) SOH-related certification
SSHOs must maintain competency through at least 8 hours of documented formal, online, or self-study safety and health-related coursework annually.
Acceptable continuing education activities include:
Teaching a class
Writing or reading professional safety articles
Attending or participating in professional safety societies or meetings
Completion of the EM 385-1-1 40-Hour Construction Safety Course (preferred or required by contract)
Proficient in:
Fall Protection
Confined Space Safety
Electrical Safety
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
