Gas Turbine Engineer
Indianapolis, IN
Pay Range: $48.00-$55.00/hour
Job Description:
The Gas Turbine Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and development of gas turbine systems and components. This role requires deep technical expertise in mechanical and aerospace engineering disciplines, with a focus on delivering optimized and reliable solutions for high-performance rotating equipment. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure design integrity, manufacturability, and long-term serviceability in aerospace or industrial applications.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver engineering solutions for gas turbine systems and subsystems, including requirements definition, trade studies, and design optimization.
- Perform detailed mechanical, thermal, vibration, durability, and lifting analyses to validate component and system integrity, performance, and lifecycle.
- Create and manage detailed design definitions, including 3D CAD models, engineering drawings (or model-based definitions), tolerance stacks, and GD&T documentation.
- Support manufacturing, supply chain, and service operations by reviewing supplier documentation, assessing non-conformances, managing design changes, and assisting production or field operations.
- Conduct failure investigations and root cause analyses for in-service or developmental hardware issues, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented effectively.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including aerothermal, materials, systems, manufacturing, and test engineers—to deliver robust and innovative designs.
- Present and defend technical solutions to project leadership, customers, and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with program requirements and performance objectives.
- Ensure compliance with industry and company engineering standards, safety regulations, and best practices, particularly within aerospace, defense, or industrial gas turbine contexts.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field. (A Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline may substitute for equivalent professional experience.)
- 5+ years of experience in gas turbine engineering, including mechanical/component design, preferably in gear systems, rotating equipment, or aerospace applications.
- Demonstrated proficiency in gas turbine design, analysis, and development with familiarity in aerospace or industrial competitors’ technologies (preferred).
- Strong command of CAD and PLM systems (e.g., NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar) and finite element analysis tools.
- Working knowledge of ASME, ISO, and aerospace design standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- U.S. Citizenship or eligibility to work on U.S. defense-related programs (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with model-based design, digital twin, or advanced simulation environments.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing and advanced materials used in high-temperature turbine applications.
- Background in competitor gas turbine products, configurations, or component technologies.
- Ability to lead design reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
