Associate Data Movement Engineer (Snowflake)
Hybrid – Eastern US
Pay Range: $40.00-$48.00/hour
Role Overview
A large enterprise organization is actively modernizing its data and analytics platforms, with a strong focus on cloud-based data warehousing and scalable data architecture. As part of this effort, the team is seeking an Associate Data Movement Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of a modern data warehouse environment built on Snowflake.
This role combines hands-on data engineering, data modeling, and operational support. The engineer will work closely with data architects, analysts, and application teams to ensure reliable, secure, and high-quality data delivery across the organization. The ideal candidate has practical Snowflake experience, a solid foundation in data warehousing concepts, and an interest in data architecture, governance, and performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the full lifecycle of ETL/ELT development, including design, mappings, transformations, scheduling, testing, and deployment
- Translate data movement and business requirements into technical designs and scalable solutions
- Develop and maintain data extractions and outbound data feeds to external partners
- Create and execute unit test plans; document new and updated data processes
- Collaborate with data analysts to understand business processes and data usage
- Assess impacts to data warehouse structures and data flows due to business or technical changes
- Contribute to architectural decisions that support enterprise data and analytics needs
- Provide production support for data warehouse and data pipeline solutions
- Monitor and troubleshoot Snowflake jobs and data pipelines in production environments
- Investigate data quality issues, performance bottlenecks, and system failures; perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data models using Data Vault 2.0 methodology
- Ensure data models align with business requirements and enterprise architecture standards
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and data pipelines in Snowflake
- Implement performance tuning strategies for queries, storage, and compute resources
- Manage Snowflake roles, permissions, and data security policies
- Implement data validation, reconciliation, lineage, and audit controls
- Support data governance initiatives, including metadata management and compliance activities
- Ensure consistent and reliable data delivery to downstream systems and reporting tools
- Manage and enhance job scheduling and orchestration using Apache Airflow
- Automate routine operational tasks and improve monitoring and alerting capabilities
- Work closely with business users, data engineers, and application teams to resolve issues and deliver enhancements
- Maintain detailed documentation for data models, workflows, schedules, and production support procedures
- Contribute to knowledge base articles and support documentation for recurring issues
- Participate in on-call and/or after-hours support as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 1+ year of experience in data warehousing and production support environments
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake; Snowflake certification is a plus
- Practical experience with Data Vault modeling (Data Vault 2.0 preferred)
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of data architecture principles
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python and/or Shell
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools and orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow, Talend)
- Exposure to incident tracking systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira) and CI/CD practices
- Some experience working with cloud-based database or analytics platforms
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, structures, and ETL best practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support timely delivery of work
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- 1+ year of experience in data warehousing and ETL/ELT development
