Business Systems Analyst

Pay Range $56-$59/hour
The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for soliciting, understanding, and documenting business requirements, processes, and workflows—producing both written and visual representations. This role involves researching, documenting, and evaluating business processes by interviewing stakeholders. The analyst gathers and documents user requirements and translates them into functional requirements for technology solutions, with a focus on improving processes, increasing system sustainability, and maximizing return on investment.
Responsibilities include data analysis, data mapping, and data visualization. The analyst collaborates with technical teams to design solutions based on functional requirements and conducts gap analyses. They must understand business, functional, and technical aspects of the systems and processes within their supported portfolio, including integration points and cross system impacts.
Core Responsibilities
- Evaluate business processes, anticipate requirements, identify areas for improvement, and elicit requirements for change.
- Conduct interviews and gather user requirements through workshops, surveys, site visits, workflow documentation, use cases, and other methods.
- Conduct data gathering and analysis to develop business requirements and assist in prioritizing business needs.
- Perform data mapping and analysis and create related documentation.
- Prepare business cases outlining potential benefits, solution options, and associated risks.
- Translate user requirements into feasible solutions and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Deliver detailed functional specifications, including workflow, business rules, interface definitions, data analysis, and mapping.
- Conduct gap analyses between applications and customer requirements and collaborate on project impact estimates.
- Participate in effort estimation including upgrade cost research and vendor solution evaluation.
- Review vendor release notes, assess impacts to business processes, and support redesign/documentation where needed.
- Perform requirements analysis and communicate results.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional requirements for technical and business teams.
- Participate in technical solution design with developers, architects, and other team members.
- Verify requirements for completeness, consistency, feasibility, and conformity to standards.
- Use standardized templates to write precise requirements specifications.
- Create process models, diagrams, and charts for development and project guidance.
- Conduct peer reviews to ensure correct interpretation of requirements.
- Select and apply appropriate business analysis methodologies (predictive or agile).
- Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to conduct strategic studies, requirements specifications, and feasibility assessments.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to junior staff and offer technical guidance to team members.
- Triage and analyze incidents and problems, providing clear business impact analysis.
- Support business analysts and test analysts where needed.
- Participate in on call or after hours work as required.

Required
- Experience with insurance-related products (e.g., life, annuity, universal life).
- Experience partnering with IT development teams on complex projects.
- Strong technical aptitude and understanding of system architecture concepts.

- High proficiency in standard productivity tools (e.g., process modeling tools, Excel with advanced formulas/pivots/macros, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Education & Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field
- 5–7+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred
- Business analysis certifications (e.g., CCBA, CBAP)
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
