The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in aerospace or automotive systems, with strong mechanical design fundamentals and a collaborative mindset.
The Component Design Engineer is responsible for delivering models, drawings, and documentation to support full lifecycle development of complex assemblies and sub-systems. This role requires working cross-functionally with Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) and ensuring technical alignment with Management System policies and Product Lifecycle System (PLS) guidelines.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop design solutions for components, complex assemblies, and full engine systems with consideration for safety, cost, manufacturability, weight, repairability, and reliability.
- Deliver high-quality design definitions using CAD tools and model-based definition (MBD), aligned with manufacturing, airframer, customer, and supply chain requirements.
- Create automated and standardized design workflows to drive consistency, efficiency, and reuse in component definition.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to eliminate non-conformance through robust, producible design practices and use of lean principles.
- Perform basic analytical checks (formulas, balance points, weights, etc.) and incorporate feedback from simulation/analysis teams.
- Lead or support sub-system integration activities using Systems Engineering, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Robust Design, and risk management tools such as FMEA.
- Maintain configuration control and ensure data integrity for all component definitions.
- Author technical documentation and engineering change records per knowledge management and compliance processes.
- Manage external suppliers and design service providers, ensuring design quality, traceability, and delivery to schedule.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (Computer Engineering not accepted).
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing components for gas turbines, aerospace, or automotive systems.
- Proficiency in mechanical design tools such as Siemens NX, CATIA, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, mechanical systems, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with model-based design workflows, configuration management, and design release processes.
- Familiarity with sub-system integration, producibility standards, and quality assurance methods.
- Knowledge of product integrity, certification frameworks, and compliance with industry regulations.
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work and eligibility for DoD clearance.
