Manager of Accounts Payable

Job Summary
The Accounts Payable Manager oversees daily AP operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and reimbursements. This role manages internal controls, vendor relationships, and a team of AP specialists/analysts. Responsibilities also include IRS?related AP tax reporting, state sales tax reporting, accrual processes, and participation in special projects.
The ideal candidate brings strong AP technical expertise and hands-on experience designing and analyzing KPIs and operational metrics.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage end?to?end AP processes, including invoice processing, payment cycles, and expense reimbursements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop AP team members, including performance management.
- Develop and maintain AP procedures, systems, and internal controls to ensure compliance with policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Design, track, and analyze AP KPIs and metrics to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintain documentation and records for AP transactions.
- Monitor aging reports and ensure timely vendor payments.
- Collaborate with management and internal departments to support financial and operational goals.
- Resolve costing or receipt issues with Procurement and vendors.
- Oversee IRS AP?related tax filings (e.g., 1099/1042) and applicable state sales tax reporting.
- Manage quarterly and year?end AP accruals and reconciliations.
- Support audits and provide required documentation.
- Research and respond to internal and external inquiries.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and AP best practices
- Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership capability
- Experience in a high?volume, multi?entity environment
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem?solving skills
- Strong technical skills, including experience building and interpreting KPIs
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Experience with federal and state AP?related tax forms
- Detail?oriented with sound judgment
Technical Requirements
- Experience with large enterprise financial systems (e.g., SAP)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5–7 years of AP experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/managerial role
- Familiarity with automated AP tools/workflow systems
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Not eligible for employer visa sponsorship
Compensation
Compensation is based on experience, education, certifications, and internal equity. Final offers consider the geographic location where work is performed.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
