Opto-Mechanical Technician

Pay Range: $50K – $60K/year
Job Description:
Working in the Electro Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) Team, focuses in the development, manufacturing, and supports infrared and electro-optical solutions for civilian and soldier applications for both ground vehicles and airborne platforms. In this role, you will work alongside the engineering team to build and test optical, mechanical, and electrical hardware. The ideal candidate will be able to work very independently with little direction or within a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assembling, mounting and aligning precision optical and mechanical assemblies
- Collimate and align an IR camera system
- Use precision measurement devices
- Use graphical unit interfaces with a verity of IR devices
- Use of mechanical measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, gage blocks
- Perform visual cosmetic inspections of optics and other components
Required Qualifications:
- Certificate or associate degree in optics, photonics, physics, or related fields
- 2+ years of professional experience working with optical assemblies
- 2+ years of professional experience as a mechanic/technician
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S.
- Has a good understand of the English language
- Ability to travel as required
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. Unaided
- Ability to perform job duties that require working in cramped positions in small openings
- Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to read, understand, and follow electrical/mechanical drawings and schematics
- Experience with cable and harness building and repair
- Knowledge of network standards and configuration (TCP/IP, SNMP, serial communications)
- Operational knowledge of signal generators, oscilloscopes and multi-meters, soldering wires and connectors, various crimping tools, wire stripping techniques, ohm’s law, continuity testing, pinning out a military type connector, routing and tie wrapping cables, drilling and tapping holes, and building junction boxes
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and as part of a team
- Must have attention to detail, standards, and documentation
- Experience with thermal and vacuum testing equipment
- Familiarity with optical analysis tools
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
