Packer Helper

Starting pay: $17.00/hour
1. Purpose
To define the standard procedures for the Packer Helper position at the Reno facility, ensuring continuous press operation, proper material flow, accurate labor tracking, and efficient support for press operators and finishing equipment.
2. Scope
This procedure applies to all Packer Helpers working in the Reno label manufacturing facility.
3. Responsibilities
- Maintain uninterrupted material supply to all press operators.
- Monitor the butt splicing machine and respond to roll change alerts.
- Accurately clock into Work Orders and indirect labor codes.
- Assist with job transitions by preparing labels, materials, and documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and waste control in production areas.
- Communicate with supervisors and support staff
4. Procedure
4.2 Verify Operator Material Needs
- Visit each press operator at the start of the shift.
- Ensure every press has the required materials:
- Raw material rolls
- Boxes
- Cores
- Labels
- Any job specific supplies
- Confirm operators have enough material to prevent downtime.
4.3 Monitor the Butt Splicing Machine
- After all presses are supplied, monitor the butt splicing machine.
- Listen for the bell alert indicating a roll change is required.
- Replace rolls promptly and verify proper alignment.
4.4 Waste Management
- Make regular trips to the trash compactor.
- Remove accumulated waste from press areas.
- Keep walkways and work areas clean and safe.
4.5 Ongoing Operator Support
- Continuously check operators throughout the shift.
- Replenish boxes, cores, raw material, and other supplies as needed.
- Respond immediately to operator requests.
4.6 Preparing for Upcoming Jobs
- When operators are nearing the end of a job, confirm their progress.
- Request the next order
- Prepare job labels for the upcoming WO.
- Provide the pick ticket so raw material, boxes, and cores can be pulled
4.7 Material Handling and Staging
- Check if boxes or cores are already on the floor; deliver them if available.
- When raw material arrives:
- Remove rolls from pallets.
- Stage and align materials at the correct press.
- Confirm all materials match the WO.
4.8 Repeat Workflow
- Continue cycling through:
- Operator support
- Butt splicer monitoring
- Waste handling
- Job preparation
- Material staging
- Maintain awareness of operator needs and production flow.
5. Safety Requirements
- Follow all PPE requirements.
- Use proper lifting techniques.
- Keep walkways clear.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
6. Documentation
- Ensure all pick tickets, labels, and WO materials are completed accurately.
- Communicate discrepancies or shortages
- Maintain accurate labor tracking through proper clock in procedures.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
