Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Quality Engineer to lead quality assurance initiatives across complex railcar or transportation manufacturing projects. In this role, you will ensure compliance with technical specifications, customer requirements, and ISO 9001 standards while driving continuous improvement throughout the full project lifecycle — from design and production through testing, warranty, and modification phases.
This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of project quality performance, collaborate across multiple disciplines, and directly influence the delivery of safe, reliable, and high-performing rail systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Quality Plans, Master Test & Inspection Plans, and Audit Procedures for assigned projects.
- Monitor and report on project quality performance, identifying trends, issues, and corrective actions.
- Lead QA activities across production, testing, warranty, and modification phases to ensure compliance with all project and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with internal departments, customers, vendors, and subcontractors to resolve quality concerns and drive root-cause corrective actions.
- Review and approve QA documentation, inspection reports, and supplier/subcontractor quality records.
- Ensure adherence to customer specifications, engineering drawings, and ISO 9001 quality standards.
- Support internal and external audits, configuration management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in project and customer meetings, presenting quality performance updates, metrics, and risk assessments.
- Oversee supplier quality activities, including source inspections and verification of quality deliverables.
- Prepare and maintain complete, auditable QA documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Travel up to 30% domestically and internationally to supplier sites, manufacturing facilities, and customer locations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of Quality Assurance or Quality Engineering experience within rail, transportation, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of QA methodologies, including FAI, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Source Inspection, and Corrective Action systems.
- Hands-on experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems and auditing practices.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in both production and field settings.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with quality data management and documentation control systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in rolling stock, heavy equipment, or large-scale engineered systems.
- Familiarity with Configuration Management and Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) practices.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Lead Auditor (ISO 9001) certification preferred.
- Strong analytical and process-improvement mindset, with commitment to operational excellence.
