Security System Engineer
Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid)
Pay Range: $53.00-$66.00/hour
Job Description:
We are seeking a Security Systems Engineer to join a high-impact team supporting critical aerospace and defense programs. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge systems security and resiliency efforts, working closely with engineering, cybersecurity, and government stakeholders. You will leverage your engineering expertise and passion for secure systems to shape solutions throughout the product lifecycle.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and implement technologies and processes required to meet system security and resiliency requirements.
- Learn and apply Secure Cyber Resilient Engineering (SCRE) principles across requirements, design, build, test, production, and support phases.
- Collaborate with government agencies, customers, suppliers, and industry experts to align with evolving system security requirements.
- Develop digital models and apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to meet program objectives.
- Contribute to the development, update, and implementation of systems security and resiliency best practices, policies, and procedures across the business.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or STEM field and 1+ year of relevant experience, OR
- Master’s degree in STEM (no experience required), OR
- PhD in STEM (no experience required).
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience preferred, ideally within aerospace, defense, or embedded systems.
- U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a high-level security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active security clearance (or ability to have a clearance reactivated/renewed).
- Knowledge or desire to learn systems security policies and standards such as RMF, NIST SP 800-160, DO-326, and DoDI 5000.8.
- Interest or experience in cybersecurity and cyber threats (e.g., secure systems design, intrusion detection, digital forensics, system recovery, or risk assessment tools).
- Familiarity with SCRE methodology and risk management frameworks.
- Strong technical and interpersonal skills, including systems thinking, communication, time management, and collaboration in multi-disciplinary environments.
- Motivation to actively learn, adapt, and respond to evolving security challenges.
