Sous Chef

Pay Range: $58K-$65K/year
Job Description:
The Sous Chef supports the daily culinary operations of the restaurant and steps in to lead the kitchen team in the Chef’s absence. This role ensures high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a passion for hospitality and a commitment to delivering an exceptional dining experience.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee kitchen operations during service, ensuring consistent preparation and timely execution of menu items.
- Conduct regular inspections of food quality, presentation, kitchen sanitation, and staff compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain strict adherence to standardized recipes, portion control, and inventory guidelines to support budgetary goals.
- Collaborate with the Chef on menu development, recipe testing, and special event planning.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and supervising kitchen staff to uphold service excellence and team efficiency.
- Monitor kitchen performance and recommend improvements to enhance food quality and workflow.
- Prepare operational reports as needed, highlighting successes and identifying areas for improvement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support kitchen and restaurant success.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of progressive experience in a high-volume kitchen, catering operation, or similar culinary setting
- Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory kitchen role
- Culinary education or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Proficiency in kitchen operations, food preparation, and sanitation standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to delivering a high-quality dining experience
